I have been dabbling into altering my website with whatever HTML and coding I read about so bear with my neophytic explorations. What irked me the most was the obvious default Weebly favicon that you cannot change easily unless you pay for a premium account. Obviously, Weebly has made it harder to navigate towards locating the uploaded file's URL in the root directory. With that, I successfully changed it by using a simple trick I formulated through trial and error.
After converting your .jpeg or .png file with the numerous free .ico converters online, upload your file under:
Design (upper tabs) > Edit HTML/CSS (lower left button) > Assets + (left side bar) > + Images (left side bar under Assets)
Upload your .ico file in the images folder. The most confusing part is that when you upload your .ico file, you won't see the file itself unlike when you upload a .jpeg file. Notice when uploading a .jpeg file, you will see the file below it right away:
See, this is when I got confused and thought that I might need an external .ico hosting because no matter how I repeated, it wouldn't show but the file is there. Learning curve, people!
Now in order to get your URL for your .ico file, just right click and other .jpeg file under the Images drop down tab. Copy the URL.
To apply your new little favicon, go to:
Settings (upper tabs) > SEO (left side bar) > Scroll down to Header Code
Paste your previously copied URL from a random .jpeg file under the Images tab. Replace the .jpeg name with your .ico file name. The location is still the same, so it worked. I previously uploaded it in the Assets + drop down tab and not the Images tab so that was one of my failed attempts.
Click save and then publish. Enjoy your new free favicon!
