My best friend and I have always dreamed of going to Europe together but planning with our conflicting schedules has made it difficult over the past few years. Now that she is living there, we finally have the chance to make this happen!
I have not had the chance to sit down and plan what it is that I want to do in Berlin but this first attempt is Part 1 of the whole series. Of course, being an architect, the first thing that comes to mind is architecture. Within my initial search and stock knowledge, these are the top 5 buildings that I would like to see:
- Topography of Terror by Peter Zumthor
- Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe by Peter Eisenman
- Netherlands Embassy by OMA
- Neue National Gallery in Berlin by Mies van der Rohe
I did not include the obvious choices such as the Berlin Wall, French Cathedral, Charlottenburg Palace and other old buildings though I still need to see them.
Besides buildings, my best friend is determined to take me to "non-touristy" places and we are on the same page. I have yet to read more about Berlin and its neighboring points of interest. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to leave a comment below!
